Rebuilding credit after bankruptcy
Bankruptcy can be reported for up to 10 years (CFPB). What often goes wrong is how the discharged accounts are reported afterwards.
After discharge, check that…
- Discharged accounts show a $0 balance and "included in bankruptcy"
- No new late payments are reported after the filing date
- Collectors aren't reporting debts that were discharged
